About Niko Stavros

I first drove the N222 into the Douro on a guiding job out of Porto, and I have been back more than thirty times since. Most of those trips were for work, but plenty were just me, a rental car, and a list of quintas I wanted to taste at.

I hold a WSET Level 3 in Wines. That means when a producer pours you a 20-year tawny, I can tell you why it tastes the way it does and what makes the Douro different from anywhere else. For two years I led walking tours in Porto, and the question I heard most was always the same. Which Douro day trip is actually worth a whole day?

This site is my answer to that question. I do not run tours and I am not trying to sell you my own product. I point you to the tours travelers are genuinely booking and coming back happy from, with honest notes on price, timing, and what each one actually includes. When I link to a booking platform it may be an affiliate link, which helps keep this site running, but it never changes which tours I recommend or what they cost you.

If you have a question I have not answered, get in touch. I read everything.
